Re-skimm - This is the massive majority of what we do and we are good at it too.

Generally, people strip wall paper because they want to have nice clean painted walls, but they find the walls underneath the paper are cracked and have holes and gouges and wobbly bits and all sorts of things wrong with them. If this is what you have then we can make them look brand new ready for painting.

We sheet the whole floor in water proof sheets, then paint the walls with pva (a glue) then apply two coats of skimm coat plaster which we work to a perfectly flat and smooth surface ready for painting.
You can see an example of this on the
'Video' page.

Skimming Artex - This is the best method of getting rid of Artex or texture surfaces. It is basically the same as a re-skimm but takes a bit more effort on our part.

Plaster boarding-
Plasterboards go on ceilings and walls. On ceilings and stud (wooden walls) they are fixed with screws and are skimmed over. To fix to brick or block walls they are stuck on using a specific adhesive. This is called dry lining or a slang term is dot and dab.

This is generally done to new walls such as an extension or a conservatory, but is also a great way to straighten up really bad walls, for instance when tiles have been pulled of in a bathroom.

External rendering- This is  sand and cement mortar. It is applied in two coats. The first is a scratch coat this is applied to the brickwork to flaten out the joints and any lumps and bumps ans is given a key hence the name scratch coat.
The second coat is applied a minimum of 24 hours later and is worked to a smooth finish, well, relatively smooth it isnt as smooth as a skimm coat because it is two thirds sand and has a light grainy texture to it which does look really presentable.

Lime plastering- This is the old traditional method of plastering that has the horse hair in it. We do this on listed buildings etc. It has similarities with modern plastering but its actual  application method differs quite a bit especially the time scale preparation and after care which are all essential to its integrity. I attended a special course to learn this over and above my normal training.
